Underwriter & Team Leader (AB482)
Location: Maidstone/Hybrid
Opportunity to join Insurer with ambitions to become the leading Primary Specialty Insurance provider, underpinned by an effective and adaptable strategy, superior products and industry leaders.
Looking for an experienced Underwriter & Team Leader (Kent office/hybrid working) acting as the first point of contact for the Cargo, Freight and Engineering Maidstone & London based workforce providing supervision and technical underwriting expertise and guidance to less experienced underwriting staff.
Responsibilities:
Underwriting
- Working on-site with the intermediary/customer, handling an allocated portfolio to deliver agreed business development plans in line with the overall trading strategy.
- Collaborate with the underwriting team to build relationships with assigned intermediaries, aligning their needs with company goals to achieve profitable growth.
- Organise work to help the team achieve customer service and credit control goals.
- Act as a reference point on all issues, so that a high level of customer service is delivered.
- Maintain a balanced, high-quality portfolio and use gathered information efficiently.
- Act as a mentor to the team on matters of a complex nature.
Supervision
- Manage Operations Team holidays/sickness, conduct office induction for new starters
- Distribute renewals and manage workloads.
- Liaise with Operations Manager and assist with the implementation of new initiatives, processes and procedures.
- Promote and embed policies, procedures and processes liaising with relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure the display of current H&S and insurance documents.
- Liaise with other departments ensuring collaboration and service levels are maintained to the highest standard.
Knowledge and Skills
- High level of competency and technical underwriting of Cargo, Freight or Engineering and knowledge of the local market
- Ability to interpret and effectively use management information.
- Excellent communication and internal/external relationship skills.
- Dip CII/ACII or substantial progress towards is preferred.
- Previous experience of supervising a team would be preferred but not essential as this skill will be developed.
