Senior Development Underwriter (RDT344)

Location: Birmingham/Hybrid

Excellent opportunity for a Senior Development Underwriter (property & casualty) to join a Birmingham team, proactively managing the submissions, quotes and binds for new business and delivering against target quote and conversion ratios.  Independently assessing moderately complex risks, negotiating terms, and selling products in challenging markets to contribute to the sustainable profitability and success of the company.


Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business primarily comprised of moderate to complex accounts across all products.
  • Underwrite and skilfully negotiate moderate to complex risks to minimise risk and maximise profitability, including Mid Term Adjustments (MTAs).
  • Proactively manage a portfolio, ensuring KPIs are consistently achieved and actively target new business and retention.
  • Identify and capture opportunities to write additional lines of business using knowledge of products, risk characteristics and appetite.
  • Proactively utilise various technology platforms to quote and bind risk efficiently.
  • Prepare, lead and present Underwriting Reviews for individual policies or portfolios/schemes and manage action points.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships and foster and maintain relationships with brokers.
  • Develop and execute retention plans and support the new business teams to win business.
  • Train and mentor less experienced Underwriters.


Skills/Experience

  • Essential - Previous experience of underwriting in Property and Casualty classes of business.
  • Proven experience identifying and developing new business opportunities and general knowledge of the local insurance marketplace.
  • Thorough knowledge of organisational and regulatory rules, policies and procedures.
  • General knowledge of technical underwriting and proven ability in respect of broker planning and engagement activities.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability required in respect of analytical thinking, judgment, decision making, communication and strong teamwork.
  • Typically demonstrates advanced relationship management skills.
  • ACII qualification and degree education preferred.
