We understand that Oceana seeks an inspired and inspirational leader to become the new Executive Director Europe, and who would also serve as Vice President, Europe, in the international executive committee. Ideally working from Madrid or Brussels the ED Europe will set the strategic direction of Oceana’s activities, lead the team of high-level professionals to achieve agreed goals and act as a credible and effective spokesperson for the organisation. The successful candidate will present proven experience of developing and crafting workable means of implementing a strategic plan, translating input from a vision to impactful activities. The new leader will have honed skills of operational effectiveness and optimal team leadership with a focus on influence output via campaigns, in particular in a Europe wide landscape. She/he will embrace the complexities of working in Europe and ably coordinate operations, liaising closely with HQ as well as country leaders. With experience of strategic planning, budget development, fundraising and communications in an international environment, she/he will enjoy complex problem solving and drive the Europe team to achieve agreed goals. Coupled with the above-mentioned excellent operations and team leadership skillset, the new Executive Director Europe will be a recognised Brussels insider, savvy in how to sustainably engage with real decision makers, adept at crafting compelling narratives and experienced in how to shift the policy agenda. She/he will have a deep understanding as to which influence tools to deploy when and with whom as well as how. An articulate and persuasive communicator, your new leader will expand Oceana’s view beyond conservation networks and enhance yet further your ability to negotiate on both a national and EU level. In marshalling the income and teams to achieve results, the ideal candidate will raise the engagement strategy to the next level, enjoy the diversity of cultures and viewpoints that Europe offers and inspire the high functioning team to new heights in an increasingly competitive and complex geopolitical landscape. This exciting position reports directly to Oceana’s Senior Vice President and leads a team of 5 direct reports. The role should garner applicants with 10+ years of relevant professional experience in particular in an international organisation dealing with a Europe wide remit and active in EU policy participation. A deep understanding of the use of science driven data to influence policy outcomes and a strong interest in marine environment are required as well as the ability to deliver operational excellence and a happy motivated team.
